About the map

This 3D relief map captures K2 and the surrounding mountain landscape, including Skilbrum, Praqpa Kangri, and Broad Peak.

K2 sits centrally within the model, surrounded by steep ridges, sharp triangular peaks, and vast glacial valleys. The dramatic terrain makes it particularly suited to this casting process, with the aged metal finish catching the light across the ridgelines and valleys.

How it is made

The map is created from accurate mapping data using modern 3D terrain modelling and manufacturing techniques.

An original pattern is produced, from which a mould is made. Each map is then individually cast by hand using a process known as cold casting, where resin is mixed with real metal powder to create a genuine metal-effect surface.

After casting, each piece is given an aged patina finish and polished by hand to bring out the detail in the terrain.

Because every map is hand-finished, small variations in tone and patina are normal and make each piece unique.
