Details
A beautifully detailed physical 3D topographical map of Haystacks, supplied as a freestanding tabletop piece with a black felt base.
Made using real terrain data, this is an accurate scale relief model of Haystacks in the English Lake District, Cumbria. The map is cast by hand in your chosen aged metal finish and supplied fully finished, ready to display on a shelf, desk, bookcase, mantelpiece, or side table.
About the map
The area captured is shown at a scale of 1:24,130, allowing the distinctive terrain of Haystacks and the surrounding Lake District landscape to be displayed in fine detail.
The map itself measures approximately 15 x 15cm.
This is the tabletop version and is supplied unframed. The underside is finished with a black felt base to help protect the surface it is displayed on.
Why Haystacks?
Haystacks is one of the Lake District’s most treasured fells. Alfred Wainwright famously described it as “the best fell-top of all”, and with its rugged character and views towards Buttermere and Crummock Water, it is easy to see why it remains such a favourite.
Many walkers choose Haystacks as their final Wainwright summit because of its special association with Wainwright himself. This makes the piece a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves Haystacks, the Lake District, fell walking, Wainwrights, Cumbria, or the outdoors.
How it’s made
Each map begins with accurate mapping data, which is processed using modern 3D terrain modelling techniques. From this, an original pattern is produced and a mould is made.
The maps are then cast by hand using a process known as cold casting, where resin is mixed with real metal powders to create a genuine metal-effect surface. Each casting is given an aged patina, polished by hand, finished with a black felt base, and carefully packed.
